Sage Desert: Blending Elegance and Superior Assisted Living and Memory Care in Tucson

Seniors and their families in the Tucson, Arizona area have a unique and exceptional option for assisted living and memory care at Sage Desert.

Located just east of I-10 in the northwest corner of Tucson, Sage Desert will officially open in Spring 2018 with 107 brand-new apartments. Some have already been leased, but there’s still plenty here to check out!

A New Approach for Assisted Living Options in Tucson

Tucson is something of a senior mecca in Arizona, starting with the expansive Sun City development in Oro Valley.

The western part of Tucson, where Sage Desert recently completed construction, has a different feel. There’s more space here, and more connection to nature. Our visitors have been excited by the stunning views of Mount Lemmon to the north and the Catalina Foothills to the south.

Inside, however, is what counts most and we focused on building a superior and elegant community for assisted living and memory care. We will deliver more services and choices seniors and their loved ones want for apartments, superb dining, and a wide range of social activities.

We constructed apartments specifically for assisted living residents and provide:

  • Complete accessibility for wheelchairs, including wheelchair accessible showers with seating

  • Kitchenettes with wood floors, full-size fridges, and microwaves in assisted living apartments

  • Carpeted bedrooms and sitting rooms

  • Bathrooms with tiled floors and grab bars by the toilet and inside the shower

  • Housekeeping and laundry services

  • Bedside call systems and daily check in services

  • Pets welcome!

  • We offer studio and one-bedroom apartments for our assisted living residents, and three options for memory care. All come with private bathrooms.

Residents may bring their own furniture and decorations. Our caring staff includes licensed and trained caregivers, LPNs, and RNs, also offer a bit of flair when it comes to décor and placement for furniture, knickknacks, toiletries, and even arranging closet space!

We ask residents to complete a brief form outlining their likes and preferences to help us get to know each person as an individual. It will also help us tailor programs for individual styles.

Services Delivered in an Elegant Setting

One of our goals for Sage Desert is to deliver highly skilled care in an elegant setting. It’s why we seven day nursing support for our residents and their families peace of mind.

Our common areas emphasize comfort and sophistication:

    • A stunning skylight greets visitors as they enter the front foyer

    • Galleries featuring local artists and sculptors

    • Onsite beauty salon and barber delivering the full complement of services, including massage, manicures/pedicures, styling services, and hot shaves

    • Game room with billiards and tables for poker, canasta, rummy, and mah jongg

    • Movie theater

    • exercise and fitness room and classes/training for all abilities

    • Enclosed garden for memory care residents that connect to their indoor common areas, allowing lots of space for walking

    • Outdoor patios and gardens, including outdoor dining in warmer weather

    • Putting green

    • Our chef and dining team are planning menus you’d see in Tucson’s finer restaurants. We will be offering three daily menus with lots of options, plus an a la carte menu that will include steak and shrimp. Dining will be available 12 hours a day, plus an onsite bistro service will offer lighter meals and snacks.

Our activities will include cards, crafts, movies, games, and kitchen demonstrations, something we haven’t seen elsewhere in this area. Although our residents will enjoy chef-prepared meals, many hope to continue their own interest in cooking through one of our many offered classes in our state of the art demonstration kitchen. We think this will be a particularly popular activity.

We will also offer trips to local attractions here in Tucson. We are near the world-renowned Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, (something we think everyone who visits Arizona should see!) and that we expect to visit often. Tucson is literally loaded with natural attractions; historic churches, missions, and homes; and unusual museums like the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun and the Titan Missile Museum. It’s probably impossible to be bored in the Tucson region!

      Expert Onsite Assisted Care Services
Sage Desert residents will have access to mobile medical and dental care services. We will be partnering for onsite mobile medical, vision, physical therapy, podiatry, and dental care. We will have onsite nursing support available eight hours each day and can arrange for care up to 24 hours as directed by a licensed nurse.

We will also be able to take residents to scheduled medical and dental appointments they prefer to continue to receive from their community-based providers. They can certainly make appointments with our mobile providers as well as their needs and preferences change.

Our caregivers are trained and licensed to provide assistance with Activities for Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, toileting, walking/transferring, dressing, and eating. Residents will be periodically assessed by an Licensed nurse to ensure that they receive the services they need.

We will serve up to 34 residents who require memory support in a secure neighborhood. We follow the highly regarded In the Moment® program that emphasizes six wellness principles to help memory care residents maintain spiritual, physical, and emotional connections. In the Moment focuses on meeting them in their moments, or realities, and working to encourage positive memories and taking part in enjoyable activities that range from gardening to games, exercises, and even “tasks” like folding and sorting clean clothing.
